Community Living

THE CATFARM COMMUNITY

Step off-grid and join our collaborative projects and be part of a purrrrfect adventure.

The Catfarm offers a unique opportunity to learn new skills, showcase your talents, make life-long friends, and build a masterpiece together. We have the equipment to build living structures and are open to all creative input.

Also, you will have the time and right environment to reconnect with nature, work on your personal growth and connect with beautiful souls while becoming a cat yourself <3

The sky is the limit! If you have an affinity for cats and are interested in collaborating with other types of project developers, artists, healers, builders, gardeners and entrepreneurs to develop social, artistic and ecological projects, this is perfect for you! Also, we work online for the development of trainings, events and expanding to other terrains.

Though all of this takes time, once you arrive, you will go through an adaptation process. We lovingly ask you to please be patient in the first weeks, sometimes it takes a little while for the new kittens to find their place and comfort <3

HOW WE BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER

Staying together and having a sense of community and connection to others is important to us. You will have plenty of time to talk, laugh and meet people. To strengthen our bond with others we emphasise the importance of sharing. Every morning we have a community meeting where everyone has the chance to tell the community how they are feeling. Also, we organise sharing circles where each individual has the opportunity to develop on a topic and express themselves. At times, we also run women and men circles to create a sense of sister and brotherhood by creating safe spaces for individuals to comfortably open up about their emotions and views of the world.

We also enjoy having silent moments and connect with ourselves so we welcome the cats with interest in meditation or healing to run workshops on these topics, guided meditation sessions, and Moon celebrations.

We encourage everyone to organise activities and other kinds of workshops like up-cycling, nutrition, painting, yoga, dance, or any other topic that you love. We love empowering people and welcome you to share your passion with the community <3

2 MONTHS LONGER SUMMER

The Catfarm sits amongst wide open spaces near the seaside and just 30 km away from Montpellier’s liveliness. The land allows off-grid living and has the potential for a permaculture system to be put in place. It is a social laboratory and artsy playground for designing new ways of living in harmony with nature and with each other. There is a lot of maintenance work to be done on this French farmhouse as well as freedom for your own creative direction once you spend some time with us and understand the dynamic and vision of the community.

The thick castle-style walls of the house provide solid foundations and plenty of existing character oozing inspiration. It is a place where a community can thrive together, whilst working towards achieving sustainability through creative collaboration, love and dedication.

CATFARM SEASONS

MARCH & APRIL

Opening of the New Season – We start applying the new structure developed in winter and receive a new group of cats

MAY - SEPTEMBER

Erasmus+ Youth Exchanges or Trainings * and continuation of usual activities and projects + Summer Season – Here the community is with its highest rate of volunteers and visitors.

OCTOBER & November

The number of cats decreases and we slowly prepare for the cold winter. Time to reflect on what has happened since the start of the season and plan for next year

DECEMBER, JANUARY & FEBRUARY

The winter cats are cocooning and we re-structure the place while developing new projects for the rest of the seasons. The number of people at Catfarm is at its lowest

* ERASMUS + YOUTH EXCHANGES // If you are planning to visit during these events, have in mind that the place will be full of around 40 people. Also, the priority of the community is on hosting the participants so you will be directly involved in it while continuing your projects. We expect a collaboration between volunteers and Youth Exchange participants. Testimonial

Go to Catfarm if… You like meeting beautiful authentic people, learning about sustainability (self sufficiency, ecovillages & community life on a small scale), random jam sessions (and random unorthodox weddings), beat boxing (and actual boxing), massage workshops (as well as workshops or lectures on biochar, relationships & more), cats in the sink, beautiful golden hours, going to the beach, partying, dancing, cuddles and more cuddles, DIY everything, yummy food, sleeping outside (or in tents, a car or in a gorgeous tipi!), awesome weather, the one local bar in Poussan, chickens in your bed, and so much more… not to mention the endless little projects and chores which keep the place running . I am so happy to have connected with so many amazing people.  I’m excited to see what comes next! Especially looking forward to seeing new gardens, data collection systems and new DIY natural products recipes!

I felt so recharged in the community & feeling so much more myself.  The ways of connecting with others are so much more comforting and loving than in “normal society”.

There are so many inspiring solutions and other ways of living that are so much more fulfilling – from self sufficiency to how we connect with other humans.

Thanks for having me cats, I hope we meet again!”
